i'm gonna stay away from the unimog for the time being lol...i think i'll get my feet wet on a multi-use platform first
ya, i've no doubt got a lot to learn...but it looks like i came to a place with a bunch of good guys who have a shytload of grey-matter they're willing to let me pick away at (activate zombie voice: "mmmmmm, brains"..disactivate)

i checked out the 2x6 (also saw 2x4) rocker mod, cuz it's looking to be my first "fix" the way things are looking and like what i see, makes me a little less leery of the issue. also checked out a couple of floor pan swaps just in case

anyway, just wanted to re-itterate, thanx for being here guys!!! you've been a ton of help

X3 on finding one with as little rust as possible. I got a 2door 98 auto last year with the intention of doing the 2x6 rockers and have yet to find the time, place, and somebody to actually teach me to weld. Last night I had to run a new brake line due to rust, and over the past year I've replaced just about everything. If I started with a better base, I would be way farther ahead. Now my rocker rust is so bad I'm thinking it might be too far gone.

If i get stuck with one i need to do it on i'll give you a shout. I've got the welder and the garage (worse case we use core in the driveway), and a guy from here at work can give us both a quick beginners course I've done some stick and brazing from when i was doing tranny's but never messed with mig yet

so i scored this li'l lady a few days ago... '99 (unsure yet if it's an early or late version)
a little surface rust on the back bumper, but the floors and rockers look mint and feel solid, roof'll get a liner spray (a little paint flakeage goin' on there)
but she runs like shyt and the exhaust is a wash...blowing serious blue smoke so i'm sure she'll need some motor work
not sure what codes she's throwing yet, not much light (or life) left after 16 hour shifts lol. hopefully i'll get a chance to check things out better next weekend

Ontario plate, clean rockers. Do my eyes deceive me??

Nice score! Sounds like you've got a compression test to run!
But our trip was different. It was to be a classic affirmation of everything right and true in the national character. A gross physical salute to the fantastic possibilities of life in this country. But only for those with true grit.

And we are chock full of that, man!

Yup I have a 2000 xj and at 156k the head cracked at 3-4 .The leaking coolant killed the bottom end so I opted for a reman engine at $2400 form Montreal engine shop.True I got another same block-head combo but I am good till I leave this planet.

i love my xj's. had three, just sold my 99. i have an 00 with 4.5 inch R.E. lift on 33's, 4.0 with aw4 and 231 and an 8.25. runs mint. rockers are still solid.
and i have my fav. 90 renix with aw4, 231, xj44 locked, LP30 open, 8 inch staangs/R.E lift on 36's. replaced both front floor pans, but rockers are still solid. gets wheeled hard.

i've had a couple tj's at the same time, still have them actually, a willys and i just ordered a 2dr JL rubicon. still gonna wheel the xj, they are just so nice on the trails.

Hey caged, whiplash and XJ Brothers

Ive had Yj, CJ and I'm on my third XJ build

I love them over all others, they wheel great and are easy to work on

I love watching people constantly swatting bugs, spraying bug spray and sweating their Cajunas off while fighting the trail...
While I sit in my cool cab listening to tunes and crawling all over that trail.😀👍😜

Nice find, get a Spartan locker for the rear and modify your fenders according to your tire size....

I'll take those flares if your not going to use them... making my own to look like stock but fit 35s (marring two sets together)
I'd leave it no fenders at all but coppers have no sence of haha in my area...😜

Mine is locked front and rear, on 31 right now but thinking of going to 33-35... not sure yet...

Cutting the rear corners, building rock rails that are flush with body.only because the rockets are new
But if they were rot I'd do the 2x6 way...it's easy...

I'm building front bumper, and rear with swing arm(tire-gas can-jack)

Got all the metal coming on Friday...enough to probably do two if you want to combine our efforts...
    TMR tabs and stuff
    Hood Loovers
I've also got a Ford Taurus fan, if I can figure out how
To wire the damn thing...lol the clutch fan is my only complaint
I've replaced three, so electric is for me...
Got the top of a snorkle that I'm trying to figure out how todo it.
The intake is behind the headlight, 💩
I'm suggesting you move it... it's in a bad spot, for sure!

    XJ's ROCK
    Hope that helps
    Sorry for the rant😀
    Nothing but Love 4U Brother....Catman

    YOU CAN DO IT!!!!! Oops!
