So it's been about 7 years since I've had a jeep. I sold my 1952 Willys M38 on one tons with 44" bloggers in 2011 when my son was one and focused on other things in life and different projects.
I bit the bullet today and purchased a 1977 CJ5. It's more of a project than I was hoping for, but it's a fairly unmolested one owner jeep that's hopefully worth saving.
The plan is to pull the tub, clean up the frame, do body work, re-assemble and get it certified for the street and hopefully get out for some light wheeling this year. Then I'll tear it down in the fall/winter to do a full drivetrain swap/upgrade
77 CJ5 rebuilt on 33's soon to get a 4bt cummins
2014 Dodge Ram 2500 cummins DD
A few updates to my new rig, got it stripped down, fixed the frame. The body was pretty beat up, but I revived it with all new floors, new cross members and some new metal welded in the sides. The back corners are pretty denty so I've decided I'll just cover them with some corner guards painted black. Yesterday I shot some paint on it. I wanted to go the original colour but it was to yellowey for me so I picked something very close. It's 2017-2018 Jeep Gobi, I'm happy with it so far, but it's far from perfect. I won't be afraid to wheel it this way.
Forgot one pic. The interior is sprayed with raptor liner, I got the tintable kind and tinted it the same Gobi colour
Then I found another 77 cj5 for $1000, what sucks is the new one is in way better shape than the one I started with I wish I had found this on first, it was bought in 89, driven until 92. The owner passed away and it was put in his barn. The son tried to get it running for his kids to drive around the farm but couldn't so they sold it to me. I've never found a CJ with as good of a frame as this one has. I guess I'll be doing another build once I finish the first one!

I miss that m38, it was a solid rig. In hindsight I should have left the m38 on 38's, when I put it up on 44" boggers it lost its appeal to me. I've never seen it since I sold it about 7 years ago. It went to a guy over near Lyndsay/Peterborough. Anyone know where it ended up?
A little more progress since my last post. I got the fenders and tailgate painted up and installed this week, built a new roll bar last week. Wiring harness is in and mostly hooked up.
Still need to mount the seats, set rear pinion angle and build rear drive shaft, install exhaust and new brake shoes. Then take it for a rip and find out what needs tweaked before I can take it for a safety. Unless I can find anyone to safety it for me before then
