    Warn 8274 Winch rebuild/refresh

So I picked up this 8274 from a member on here- Tank. I have spent the last 3 years using and abusing it. So I thought, why the hell not give some TLC, it was a little rough when I got it.
Mine has the date code LD9= so that should translate to Dec 6, 1989 as mine had the plastic plug. Also mine also has a serial number. I have sent that information off to warn to see what I can find out. Also hopefully the can point me in the direction of some new stickers for it.
I ordered the brake pawl spring- FAWK expensive
    Brake rebuild kit
    Lower housing rebuild kit.
Time to have it and tear it down.

    Clean up time

    Started with the brake parts,
The inside is pitted, but still smooth where the bearings and brake pad run, so will leave as is and just clean up. Someone had previously painted the outside of the brake drums and it was pealing so time to get that off. Then I painted them with Steel it.
I won't be painting the casing. I have a polish for that.

    Cleaning up the housing today

Out in the garage, having at it! Put it through some degreaser first then scrubbed it down. Then put the polish on it. What a difference.

    Started the assembly

After replacing seals and o rings, time to start putting it back together. That's enough for today.

I've had an 8274-50 for 23 years now. I've been wanting to do upgrades for years. Just never got around to it. I'll eventually do a bow motor 2+ and the end mount albright with the conductor bars....eventually.

Have you thought about doing the free spool clutch delete? I may go that way but only if I had a reliable wireless remote.

I haven't looked into that yet. Mine has the clip removed from the brake and also the 9.5 motor. It is ****ing crazy speed with that motor. I have the Albright solenoid, in dash controls as well as the cable remote. I have a warn wireless remote, but I have 2 quit working on me. I don't like the delay either with the wireless.

I was watching a couple vids a while back of a single bow motor 2+ on an 8274 and as far as I'm concerned, it is next level ridiculous for line speed...so naturally, I want it. lol But a delay with the remote would not be good with that kind of line speed. I was never much interested in wireless remotes as they always seemed to be temperamental/unreliable. But it is the only way you could unspool a winch by yourself that does not have a free spool. Lots to ponder.

Mine still free spools and easily I must say. Curious, why would you want to eliminate the free spool?
On another note, I heard back from Warn to day, they are sending me the sticker package for this winch FOC, IT won't be exactly the same but close.

A little more polishing today on the other piece. Also set the bushing in the lower section. 5mm in as per Warn. Anyway looks pretty good.

    Brake Assembly

Well that was fun. I will say this, if you want to keep your sanity when doing the assembly, then buy some rare earth magnets, I bought some from Amazon for $12. IT saves a ton of aggravation as it holds the bearing out while you install the rest of the clutch

    The rest of the brake

Make sure you have your clamps and you have sanded the shaft for easy assembly.

Great work! Wanna rebuild mine for me?

Mine didn't come with a remote when I bought it, so I need to figure that out...

I also think it needs a new solenoid by the looks of it. I bought the winch used, but haven't tried using it yet.
